If you’re a fan of the short cartoons staring Mickey and his friends, check out the new set of animated shorts. Disney Animation has been hard at work this year producing an entirely new set of short cartoons. Even though they’ve all been created with modern animation technology, these new shorts harken back to a retro Mickey Mouse and an animation style from the 1930s, with wonderful backdrops from the ’50s and ’60s.
Apparently, there are more than 20 new animated shorts in all. The newest one, O Sole Minnie, features an Italian Mickey pursuing Minnie through the canals and city life of Venice. Watch the new short below:
The animators used a lot of old, classic Disney animated pieces for inspiration for this new series of cartoons. Inspiration included the prolific work of Mary Blair, who created tons of concept art for Disney. In fact, about halfway through the short above, you see a building that looks nearly identical to Disneyland’s It’s a Small World that Blair originally created for the 1964 World’s Fair in New York.
